Job Description

Role & responsibilities Key Responsibilities: Production Management: Oversee the day-to-day operations of the steel fabrication shop, ensuring timely and efficient production of Fabricated jobs Plan, schedule, and manage the fabrication process to meet project deadlines and cost estimates. Monitor the progress of ongoing projects, ensuring that production targets and quality standards are met Team Management: Lead and supervise a team of fabricators, welders, fitters, and other workshop personnel. Provide training, guidance, and performance feedback to the team, helping to improve skills and efficiency. Quality Control & Assurance: Ensure that all steel fabrications are carried out according to design specifications, drawings, and applicable codes Handle non-conformance reports and implement corrective actions when necessary to maintain quality standards. Health, Safety, and Compliance: Enforce strict adherence to safety protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and adherence to OSHA or other local safety regulations. Conduct regular safety audits, risk assessments, and accident investigations. Material Management: Coordinate with procurement teams to ensure the timely availability of raw materials Monitor inventory levels and order materials as needed, minimizing downtime due to material shortages. Ensure that materials are stored and handled properly to prevent damage and wastage. Cost Management: Monitor and control the cost of materials, labor, and overheads to keep projects within budget. Identify and implement cost-saving initiatives without compromising on quality or safety. Process Improvement: Continuously evaluate and improve fabrication processes to increase productivity and reduce cycle time. Implement lean manufacturing practices, if applicable, to streamline operations and reduce waste. Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of production, inventory, quality control, and safety audits. Prepare regular reports on project progress, production status, and any issues that may arise, ensuring that upper management is informed. Qualifications and Skills: Educational Requirements: DME / BE in Mechanical Engineering Experience: Typically requires 10 - 12 years of experience in precision steel fabrication Technical Skills: Deep knowledge of steel fabrication processes, welding techniques, structural design, and engineering drawings. Familiarity with various welding methods (MIG, TIG, arc welding, etc.) and fabrication techniques. Proficiency in CAD software for reviewing and understanding fabrication drawings is an asset. Soft Skills: Strong leadership and team management abilities. Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills. Effective communication skills to interact with teams, clients, and stakeholders. Attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities under pressure. Personal Attributes: Strong focus on safety and quality.
