Job title: Chief Technology Officer/ Chief Engineer - Hybrid & EV Location: India - 66% of the time, 33% anywhere globally. About the client and role Our client is a well-established automotive manufacturer with strategic partnerships and a global footprint, is embarking on a major electrification journey. As part of its next phase of innovation, the company is seeking a CTO / Chief Engineer – Hybrid & EV to lead its transformation from internal combustion engine (ICE) platforms to hybrid and fully electric vehicle architectures. This is a hands-on leadership role based in India, with flexibility to work remotely for up to one-third of the time. The ideal candidate will bring deep technical knowledge, global exposure, and the ability to guide a growing team toward building world-class electric and hybrid vehicle systems for both domestic and international markets. Responsibilities Report directly to the Group CTO Lead a team of 35–40 engineers in the EV division, providing mentorship and technical direction Build and execute a roadmap for the company’s transition from ICE to EV/hybrid technologies Drive end-to-end vehicle development, including electrification strategy, battery systems, automation, and powertrain integration Collaborate with external engineering and R&D partners to ensure seamless technical integration Oversee technical disciplines such as battery management systems, electronic controls, and plastic injection tooling Provide strategic and operational leadership across a 1,000-person engineering organization in India Actively engage in decision-making and review of technical strategies, designs, and development milestones Ensure project delivery with a balance of innovation, compliance, and execution excellence Skills and Qualifications Extensive experience in electrification and hybrid technologies, ideally at a senior engineering or CTO level Strong technical background in engineering, R&D, and product development Proven track record in OEMs or Tier 1 suppliers with leadership responsibilities Deep knowledge of hybrid systems, power electronics, e-axles, BMS, and related powertrain components Experience in commercial vehicle segments such as trucks, buses, or vans is highly advantageous International experience is preferred, especially for candidates who have worked or lived abroad Willingness to spend at least two-thirds of the time on-site in India (with remote flexibility) Open to senior professionals or recently retired executives seeking a high-impact opportunity About CLM At CLM, we’re obsessed with creating a better executive search experience for our candidates and clients in the automotive industry.
