Position: Chief Veterinary Surgeon – OPD/IPD Location: Utkarsh Animal Hospital-Mumbai managed by Utkarsh Global Foundation Employment Type: Full-Time About Utkarsh Global Foundation: Utkarsh Global Foundation is a leading organization committed to animal welfare, veterinary care, and rescue operations. To strengthen our OPD (Outpatient Department) and IPD (Inpatient Department) services at Utkarsh Animal Hospital-Mumbai, we are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Chief Veterinary Surgeon who is passionate about animal welfare and veterinary excellence. Job Overview: The Chief Veterinary Surgeon will be responsible for overseeing day-to-day hospital operations, medical procedures, surgeries, and emergency care at the Bhandup facility. This role requires strong clinical expertise, leadership, and the ability to manage and mentor a team of veterinarians and support staff. The ideal candidate should be a dedicated professional with extensive experience in veterinary surgery, diagnostics, and critical care. This position offers an opportunity to make a significant impact on animal health and welfare while working with a reputed NGO. Key Responsibilities: 1. Veterinary Care; Clinical Excellence a. Conduct medical examinations, diagnostics, and advanced surgical procedures for animals under OPD/IPD care. b. Supervise and ensure high-quality treatment for injured, sick, and rescued animals. c. Monitor post-operative care, rehabilitation, and follow-up treatments. d. Manage emergency cases, trauma surgeries, and intensive care procedures. e. Oversee the treatment and vaccination of animals in coordination with veterinary protocols. 2. OPD/IPD Management; Hospital Operations a. Ensure smooth and efficient functioning of OPD and IPD services. b. Supervise admission, discharge, and ongoing medical care of hospitalized animals. c. Implement and uphold veterinary best practices, hygiene standards, and patient safety protocols. d. Coordinate with rescue teams, NGOs, and pet owners for seamless treatment and recovery plans. e. Ensure proper utilization and maintenance of medical equipment and surgical instruments. 3. Leadership, Team Management; Training: a. Lead, train, and mentor veterinarians, paravets, and support staff. b. Conduct regular training sessions and workshops to enhance skills in veterinary care and surgical techniques. c. Assign responsibilities and monitor team performance to ensure high medical standards. d. Encourage teamwork, knowledge-sharing, and professional development within the veterinary staff. 4. Research, Documentation Compliance a. Maintain accurate and updated medical records for all treated animals. b. Ensure compliance with government regulations, legal requirements, and animal welfare laws. c. Conduct research on new treatment methodologies, surgical advancements, and disease management. d. Prepare monthly and annual reports on veterinary care, surgeries, and hospital performance. Required Qualifications; Skills: Educational Qualification: • BVSc & AH / MVSc (Master of Veterinary Science) from a recognized university. • Specialization in Surgery, Emergency Medicine, or Animal Welfare (preferred). Experience: • Minimum 8-10 years of hands-on experience in veterinary practice, with a focus on OPD/IPD operations and surgical expertise. • Strong experience in managing veterinary hospitals, shelters, or animal rescue centers. Technical & Professional Skills: • Expertise in small and large animal surgery, trauma care, and critical treatment. • Ability to handle complicated medical cases, diagnostic evaluations, and treatment plans. • Knowledge of modern veterinary technology, anesthesia, and radiology. • Strong problem-solving, decision-making, and multitasking abilities. Leadership & Communication Skills: • Strong leadership skills to manage hospital operations and team coordination. • Excellent client interaction and counseling abilities for pet owners, caregivers, and NGO representatives. • Passion for animal welfare and ethical veterinary care. Preferred Qualifications: • Certification in Advanced Veterinary Surgery, Animal Welfare, or Critical Care Medicine. • Experience in non-profit organizations, animal rescue centers, or NGOs. • Understanding of budgeting, inventory management, and hospital administration.
