Work Location: Kanha Shanti Vanam, Hyderabad https://g.co/kgs/4EiMgu Position Overview Prepares clay materials for recipe mixing; mixes clay to exact recipe each time, properly bags and labels clay batches, wedges and weighs clay for production and education purpose daily, cleans clay preparation area and tools; assists glaze set up and kiln firning. Key Responsibilities: Clay Mixing Preparation: Prepare and mix clay in the correct proportions using raw materials such as kaolin, feldspar, silica, and grog. Measure and combine additives to achieve specific textures and properties based on project requirements. Monitor clay consistency and moisture levels to ensure optimal workability. Process recycled clay to minimize waste and maintain sustainable practices. Quality Control: Test clay batches for consistency and durability, adjusting as needed. Regularly check for impurities or air pockets and eliminate them to prevent defects during firing. Ensure clay batches meet the quality standards of the studio. Equipment Maintenance: Operate, clean, and maintain clay mixers, pug mills, and other clay processing equipment. Ensure all safety standards are adhered to while using machinery. Report equipment malfunctions and coordinate repairs as necessary. Inventory Management: Track raw material inventory levels and assist in ordering supplies as needed. Organize storage areas for both dry and prepared clay. Manage and document clay batches for consistency in production. Collaboration: Work closely with potters, artists, and production staff to understand clay requirements for different projects. Offer technical advice on clay types and preparation techniques to improve overall production quality. Assist in troubleshooting any clay-related issues during the pottery-making process. Skills Qualifications: Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience in clay preparation or a related role in pottery or ceramics production. Familiarity with different types of clay (earthenware, stoneware, porcelain) and their specific handling requirements. Technical Skills: Strong knowledge of clay properties, mixing techniques, and additives. Ability to operate and maintain clay processing equipment (pug mill, mixer, etc.). Basic understanding of ceramic production processes, including throwing, hand-building, and slip casting. Physical Requirements: Ability to lift heavy clay bags and operate machinery. Comfortable working in a dusty, workshop environment. Attention to detail and patience with repetitive tasks. Other Qualifications: Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Passion for pottery and a creative, problem-solving mindset.
