Job Description

The Construction Manager - Solar will be responsible for overseeing the entire lifecycle of solar energy projects, from initial planning and design to final installation and commissioning. This role involves managing cross-functional teams, ensuring that projects are delivered on time, within budget, and in compliance with all technical, safety, and regulatory requirements. The Project Manager will also be responsible for stakeholder communication, risk management, and ensuring the successful completion of solar projects that meet both client expectations and industry standards. Key Responsibilities: Project Planning & Scheduling: Develop comprehensive project plans, including scope, timeline, budget, and resources required. Ensure timely completion of all phases of the project while meeting the project s goals and client expectations. Team Management: Lead and coordinate a multidisciplinary project team, including engineers, designers, procurement officers, contractors, and other stakeholders. Assign tasks, manage workloads, and ensure the team is working efficiently toward project objectives. Budget & Cost Management: Develop and manage project budgets, ensuring that costs are controlled, and project deliverables are met without exceeding financial constraints. Monitor project expenditures and ensure that project stays within budget. Client & Stakeholder Communication: Serve as the main point of contact for clients, contractors, and other stakeholders. Provide regular updates on project progress, resolve issues, and ensure that stakeholder expectations are managed effectively. Regulatory Compliance & Safety: Ensure that all project activities comply with local, national, and international regulations, safety standards, and environmental laws. Ensure that quality standards are maintained throughout the project lifecycle. Risk Management: Identify potential risks and issues throughout the project and develop strategies to mitigate them. Proactively resolve challenges that arise to keep the project on track. Quality Assurance: Ensure that the project meets quality standards by overseeing quality control processes and conducting regular site inspections. Ensure that solar installations meet design specifications and client requirements. Procurement & Supply Chain Management: Oversee procurement processes, including the acquisition of solar equipment, materials, and services. Coordinate with vendors and suppliers to ensure timely delivery of materials and services. Contract Management: Review and manage contracts with vendors, suppliers, and subcontractors. Ensure that all agreements are adhered to and that deliverables are met on time and within scope. Documentation & Reporting: Maintain detailed project documentation, including contracts, change orders, schedules, budgets, reports, and technical documentation. Ensure that all project records are accurate, up-to-date, and readily available for future reference. Project Handover & Close-Out: Oversee the final commissioning and handover of the project to the client, ensuring that all deliverables are completed to the client s satisfaction. Prepare project close-out reports and assess project performance for continuous improvement. Qualifications: Education: Bachelors degree in Engineering, Project Management, or a related field (required). A Master s degree or MBA with a focus on project management is a plus. Certifications: Project Management Professional (PMP) or similar project management certifications (e.g., Prince2) are highly preferred. Additional certifications in solar energy or renewable energy systems are a plus. Skills: Project Management Expertise: Strong knowledge of project management methodologies, tools, and techniques, including scope, timeline, cost, and resource management. Solar Energy Knowledge: In-depth understanding of solar power systems, including photovoltaic (PV) systems, inverters, batteries, and the civil, mechanical, and electrical infrastructure involved in solar projects. Team Leadership: Proven ability to lead and manage multidisciplinary teams, foster collaboration, and motivate teams to meet project objectives. Budget & Cost Control: Expertise in managing project budgets, tracking expenditures, and ensuring that the project stays within budget. Risk Management: Strong problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to identifying risks and challenges, and developing strategies to address them. Regulatory & Compliance Knowledge: Knowledge of relevant solar industry regulations, codes, safety standards, and environmental laws. Communication & Negotiation Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills for engaging with stakeholders, reporting project status, and resolving conflicts or issues. Contract Management: Experience in managing contracts, procurement, and vendor relationships to ensure successful project execution. Software Proficiency: Proficiency in project management software (e.g., MS Project, Primavera, or similar), as well as familiarity with solar-specific design and planning tools. Experience: Experience: 5+ years of experience in project management, with at least 2-3 years of experience managing solar energy projects or renewable energy infrastructure projects. Industry Experience: Hands-on experience in managing solar installation projects, from site evaluation and design through to construction and commissioning. Leadership Experience: Proven ability to lead large, cross-functional teams and ensure successful project delivery
