Job Description

Work location - Lalru, District Mohali (between Ambala and Chandigarh cities) Knock on Wood is seeking an experienced Costing Officer with a strong background in the furniture industry. The ideal candidate will be responsible for creating, managing, and maintaining accurate Bills of Materials (BOM) for furniture products, and calculating detailed production costs. This role plays a critical part in helping the company control expenses, improve profitability, and ensure smooth operations by providing accurate cost data and material requirements. Key Responsibilities : Develop and maintain accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs) for all furniture products, including specifications for raw materials, hardware, finishes, and accessories. Calculate and analyze costs for materials, labor, and overhead to determine the total production cost of each product. Regularly update BOMs based on design changes, material updates, or manufacturing process improvements. Collaborate with the design, production, and procurement teams to ensure that BOMs reflect current production processes and materials used. Evaluate vendor pricing for materials and negotiate better terms when possible, working closely with the procurement team to maintain cost efficiency. Monitor and track cost variations during the production process and recommend adjustments to control costs without compromising quality. Prepare detailed cost estimates for custom projects and new product lines, providing cost analysis and pricing recommendations to management. Maintain a comprehensive database of material costs, labor rates, and production expenses for future reference and analysis. Assist in margin analysis and suggest ways to improve profitability by identifying opportunities to reduce costs or increase production efficiency. Work closely with the finance team to support accurate product pricing strategies and profit margin targets. Qualifications and Experience : Minimum 3 years of experience in a BOM and costing role within the furniture manufacturing industry. Strong knowledge of furniture materials , construction techniques, and industry-specific production processes. Proficiency in ERP systems (e.g., Infor, SAP, Odoo) and Excel for managing BOMs and costing data. Attention to detail and strong analytical skills to ensure accurate cost calculations and reporting. Ability to work collaboratively with design, production, and procurement teams to ensure all aspects of the BOM and costing are accurate and up-to-date. Knowledge of cost-control methods and strategies for improving profitability without sacrificing quality. Preferred Skills : Experience in custom furniture projects and handling BOMs for complex, made-to-order products. Familiarity with wood, metal, upholstery , and other furniture materials, including pricing trends and supplier options. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple projects with varying priorities.
