Job Description

At LAT Aerospace, we’re building a clean-sheet Short Take-off and Landing (STOL) aircraft to transform regional air mobility in India. We’re looking for a Turbomachinery Engineer to design and optimize the compressor and turbine stages — both hot and cold sections — of our custom gas turbine. What you’ll doDevelop preliminary and detailed designs for compressor and turbine blades and vanes, including 1D/2D/3D aerodynamic profiling, mechanical integrity, and thermal managementDesign and analyse rotor and stator assemblies for both hot (turbine) and cold (compressor) sections, ensuring optimal aerodynamic and structural performanceDefine and manage casing geometry and clearances to balance efficiency, integrity, and service life, considering thermal and mechanical deformation across operating conditionsDesign shafts and bearing systems to support high-speed rotating assemblies, including detailed analysis of loads, vibrations, and thermal effects.Assess flow path efficiency, pressure ratios, and losses across all turbomachinery stages, identifying areas for improvementAddress blade and disk cooling, thermal gradients, and material selection for high-temperature operationCollaborate with multidisciplinary teams (aerodynamics, thermal, electrical, controls) to ensure seamless integration of turbomachinery within the hybrid electric propulsion architectureSupport manufacturability, cost, and reliability targets through design for manufacturability (DFM) and design for assembly (DFA) principlesDevelop 3D models and engineering drawings using CAD tools, ensuring manufacturability and compliance with certification standardsWork with combustion, rotor-dynamics, thermal management, and structural teams for system-level integration.Use CFD and FEA tools to evaluate blade profiles, cooling schemes, tip clearances, and overall component interactions.Support prototyping, vendor engagement, component testing, and future certification plans.Optimize for efficiency, weight, manufacturability, and durability under variable power cycles typical of hybrid-electric applications. What we're looking forMasters or PhD in Aerospace, Mechanical, or Turbomachinery Engineering.Proven experience in gas turbine or aero engine turbomachinery design, with emphasis on compressor/turbine blade and vane developmentStrong knowledge of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, and materials science as applied to high-speed rotating machineryExperience with shaft and bearing design, secondary flow path management, and advanced sealing technologiesStrong foundation in compressor and turbine aerodynamics, gas turbine cycles, and heat transfer.Experience with tools like ANSYS CFX/Fluent, AxSTREAM, NUMECA, or similar.Familiarity with material behaviour at high temperatures, cooling strategies, and blade design.Understanding of transient operation, part-load behaviour, and mission-cycle matching for hybrid systems. Why LAT?Core team opportunity at a high-conviction deep-tech startupReal aircraft, real flying hardware, real impactBuild the future of sustainable aviation in India
