Job Description

Job Title: District Coordinator - Land Reforestation & Restoration Project Location: Terai districts of Northern West Bengal (Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri & Alipurduar) Reports To: Project Manager Position Type: Full-time Offered Monthly Salary : CTC @ 13000/- + 2000 TA Opening : 2 nos. Job Overview: The District Coordinator will be responsible for supervising and coordinating the activities of 6-10 Field Officers engaged in the survey of marginal, degraded, and fallow agricultural land parcels in the Terai districts of Northern West Bengal. The role involves overseeing field operations, ensuring data quality and consistency, facilitating community engagement, and liaising with local stakeholders. The District Coordinator will play a crucial role in ensuring the successful implementation of the reforestation and restoration project. Key Responsibilities: 1. Supervision and Coordination: – Supervise and provide guidance to 6-10 Field Officers conducting land surveys and community engagement activities. – Coordinate field activities to ensure efficient and effective data collection and reporting. 2. Quality Assurance: – Monitor and review the work of Field Officers to ensure accuracy, completeness, and consistency in data collection and documentation. – Conduct regular field visits to verify data and provide on-site support and training to Field Officers. 3. Community and Stakeholder Engagement: – Facilitate participatory rural appraisals, focus group discussions, and stakeholder consultations in collaboration with Field Officers. – Liaise with local community leaders, landholders, tea estate management, and other stakeholders to foster positive relationships and gather valuable insights. 4. Data Management and Reporting: – Oversee the collection, management, and analysis of data related to land conditions, vegetation types, and community feedback. – Ensure digital records are maintained accurately using Excel and other relevant software. – Prepare comprehensive reports and presentations for the Regional Project Manager and other stakeholders. 5. Training and Capacity Building: – Train Field Officers in the use of survey, vegetation, and GIS apps on smartphones. – Conduct regular training sessions to enhance the skills and knowledge of Field Officers in community engagement and data collection methodologies. 6. Project Implementation and Support: – Assist in the development and implementation of project plans and strategies. – Provide logistical and administrative support to Field Officers to ensure smooth project operations. – Identify and address any challenges or issues that arise during field activities. Qualifications and Skills: Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Forestry, Environmental Science, or a related field; a Master’s degree is preferred. Minimum of 5 years of experience in field project management, community engagement, or land assessment projects. Proven experience in supervising and managing field teams. Strong understanding of land use patterns, agricultural practices, and reforestation/restoration techniques. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse communities and stakeholders. Proficiency in using GIS and other mapping tools for land survey and documentation. Strong analytical and report-writing skills. Ability to learn and operate survey and vegetation & GIS apps on smartphones. Proficiency in maintaining digital records of data in Excel and other software. Ability to work independently and as part of a team in remote and rural areas. Fluency in Bengali or Hindi, English; knowledge of local languages like Sadri or Munda is an advantage. Work Environment: The position requires extensive fieldwork in rural and remote areas. Must be willing to travel frequently and work in varying climatic conditions.
