Total CollectR is looking for a Software Engineering Manager to lead a remote development team building our core PHP-based debt collection platform. You will play a crucial role in managing people, leading engineering execution maintaining code quality, and building scalable development processes. This is a leadership role for someone who thrives on accountability, can coach and manage developers, and is hands-on enough to do code reviews and guide architecture conversations. You will work with internal stakeholders, engineering team leads, and product owners. The ideal candidate is a technically hands-on leader with the ability to enforce discipline and manage a team-oriented, performance-driven culture. 🔍 What You’ll Do Act as the accountability arm of the engineering function, ensuring patterns and standards are followed Monitor and enforce developer productivity , ensuring engineers are working at expected pace Conduct direct, actionable performance reviews and feedback sessions with engineers Provide unfiltered, honest feedback to engineers and team leads to drive growth and alignment Track and improve engineering documentation practices across teams and modules Enforce standards of code quality, documentation and consistency Support tech leads with delivery accountability and people management backup Work closely with team to identify blockers and escalate accountability gaps Create and maintain performance dashboards, team metrics, and engineer activity logs Coach and guide developers, especially mid/junior-level, to improve technical and professional skills Be available for overlap with U.S. hours for leadership and stakeholder syncs Foster a culture of directness, ownership, clarity, and speed in delivery ✅ What You Bring 7+ years of engineering experience with at least 2-4 years in a Software Engineering Manager or similar leadership role Hands-on development and code review experience in PHP , MySQL and JavaScript Strong experience in process enforcement, developer accountability, and team performance tracking Excellent people management and leadership skills — able to be firm and direct without being abrasive Strong understanding of agile delivery models , sprint planning, and cross-functional collaboration Familiarity with CI/CD, Docker, RabbitMQ, AWS , and infrastructure awareness Clear communicator — both written (documentation) and verbal (1:1s, meetings, feedback sessions) Experience working with remote, globally distributed teams Strong command of documentation hygiene, sprint reporting , and holding team members to deadlines High emotional intelligence with the ability to push performance while coaching individual growth Show more Show less
