ER Modeling Expert / Data Modeler

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced ER Modeling Expert / Data Modeler to design, develop, and maintain conceptual, logical, and physical data models for enterprise applications and data warehouses. The ideal candidate should have a deep understanding of relational databases, normalization, data governance, and schema design while ensuring data integrity and scalability. Key Responsibilities: Design and develop Entity-Relationship (ER) models for databases, data warehouses, and data lakes. Create conceptual, logical, and physical data models using tools like Erwin, Visio, Lucidchart, or PowerDesigner. Define primary keys, foreign keys, relationships, cardinality, and constraints for optimal data integrity. Work closely with DBAs, data architects, and software developers to implement data models. Optimize database performance, indexing, and query tuning for relational databases. Define and enforce data governance, data quality, and master data management (MDM) standards. Develop and maintain metadata repositories, data dictionaries, and schema documentation. Ensure compliance with data security and privacy regulations (GDPR, HIPAA, etc.). Support ETL/ELT pipeline design to ensure smooth data flow between systems. Work with big data platforms (Snowflake, Databricks, Redshift, BigQuery, or Synapse) to support modern data architectures. Required Skills & Qualifications: 6+ years of experience in data modeling, database design, and ER modeling. Strong expertise in relational databases (SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL, MySQL, etc.). Hands-on experience with data modeling tools (Erwin, PowerDesigner, DB Designer, Visio, or Lucidchart). Proficiency in SQL, indexing strategies, query performance tuning, and stored procedures. Deep understanding of normalization, denormalization, star schema, and snowflake schema. Experience with data governance, data quality, and metadata management. Strong knowledge of ETL processes, data pipelines, and data warehousing concepts. Familiarity with NoSQL databases (MongoDB, Cassandra, DynamoDB) and their modeling approaches. Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams including data engineers, architects, and business analysts. Strong documentation and communication skills. Preferred Qualifications: Certifications in Data Management, Data Architecture, or Cloud Databases. Experience with cloud-based databases (AWS RDS, Azure SQL, Google Cloud Spanner, Snowflake). Knowledge of Graph Databases (Neo4j, Amazon Neptune) and hierarchical modeling.
