As Head of Language Acquisition in an IB school, you'd lead and manage the language acquisition department, ensuring high-quality language teaching and learning across all IB programs, developing curriculum, supporting teachers, and fostering a positive learning environment for all students . Key Responsibilities: Leadership and Management: Lead and manage the language acquisition department, including curriculum development, teacher support, and resource allocation. Develop and implement comprehensive policies, programs, systems, structures, and curricula for language acquisition. Ensure alignment with IB principles and best practices in language education. Monitor and evaluate student progress in language acquisition, including oversight of standardized testing and other benchmarks. Monitor and evaluate teachers' planning for language acquisition and respond appropriately to emergent issues and data indicators. Provide professional development opportunities for language teachers. Curriculum Development: Develop and implement engaging and effective language acquisition curricula across the IB programs (PYP, MYP, DP). Ensure that language acquisition is integrated into the broader IB curriculum. Create learning experiences that make full use of the school's context and environment. Teaching and Learning: Model effective teaching practices in language acquisition. Provide direct support in reading, writing, and oral communication to support language learners. Coordinate academic support for language acquisition students. Student Support: Monitor student progress and provide timely feedback to students and parents. Advocate for the needs of language learners and ensure equitable access to high-quality language education. Collaboration and Communication: Collaborate with other departments and stakeholders to ensure a cohesive and supportive learning environment. Communicate effectively with parents, students, and staff about language acquisition programs and student progress. Contribute to the school's performance management and appraisal process. Professional Development: Stay current with best practices in language acquisition and IB education. Participate in professional development activities to enhance skills and knowledge. Contribute to the professional development of others, giving support and willingly sharing ideas and materials. Other Responsibilities: Participate in school events and activities. Contribute to the school's mission and vision. Maintain accurate and detailed records of student progress and department activities. Ensure the department is well resourced and maintain the effective deployment and management of the department budget.
