Job Description

About the Role: We are establishing a specialized discipline within our organization to deliver detailed hydrology reports for utility-scale ground-mounted solar power plants. As a Hydrology Specialist , you will play a pivotal role in providing site-specific hydrological assessments that inform solar project planning, mitigate flood risks, and enhance project sustainability. The ideal candidate will bring a blend of technical expertise, analytical precision, and practical experience to meet client expectations and project demands. Key Responsibilities: 1. Hydrological Modelling and Analysis: Develop and process SRTM-DEM datasets using ARC-GIS to generate topographical insights for site analysis. Utilize TRMM (Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission) data for site-specific precipitation modelling. Generate Intensity-Duration-Frequency (IDF) curves based on regional rainfall data, calibrated to project locations. Prepare flood hyetographs for various Annual Exceedance Probabilities (AEPs) to assess potential waterlogging and drainage challenges. 2. Flood Risk Assessment: Model and assess both pluvial flooding (surface water flooding from intense rainfall) and fluvial flooding (river or stream overflow impacting the site). Conduct detailed flood risk studies using HEC-RAS 2D to model floodplain dynamics under different rainfall scenarios. Create flood inundation and hazard maps for various AEP scenarios to identify vulnerable areas within the project site and recommend mitigation strategies. Assess drainage requirements to manage stormwater and minimize flood risks effectively within the site boundaries. 3. Data Integration and Interpretation: Analyze and integrate diverse datasets (e.g., satellite imagery, hydrological records, and regional weather data). Validate models against historical flooding events and refine simulations for accuracy. Provide actionable insights for civil and structural engineering teams based on hydrological outputs. 4. Reporting and Documentation: Prepare comprehensive hydrology reports for solar developers and EPC contractors, including Topographical assessments, Flood risk and inundation maps, Pluvial and fluvial flooding assessments, and Recommendations for drainage and stormwater management. Ensure reports meet both project-specific needs and regulatory compliance requirements. Present findings and solutions to internal and external stakeholders in a clear, professional manner. 5. Collaboration and Innovation: Collaborate closely with internal teams, including GIS analysts, solar engineers, and structural designers, to integrate hydrological insights into overall project workflows. Liaise with clients to understand project requirements and provide customized solutions. Stay informed on advancements in hydrology, GIS, and renewable energy to adopt innovative practices. Required Qualifications and Skills: 1. Educational Background: Bachelors or Master’s degree in Hydrology, Civil/Environmental Engineering, Geosciences, or related disciplines. 2. Work Experience: Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in hydrological modelling, flood risk assessment, or related fields. Demonstrated expertise in working with utility-scale infrastructure projects, ideally solar power plants. 3. Technical Proficiency: Hands-on experience with ARC-GIS, HEC-RAS 2D, and handling TRMM and SRTM-DEM datasets. Proficiency in hydrological analysis tools like SWAT, MIKE FLOOD, or other GIS-based flood modelling tools is a plus. Strong understanding of hydrological processes, rainfall-runoff modelling, and watershed management. Familiarity with regulatory standards and best practices for hydrological studies in infrastructure projects. 4. Soft Skills: Exceptional ability to analyze complex datasets and produce actionable insights. Strong verbal and written communication abilities for effective client interaction and report preparation. Team-oriented mindset to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams. Proactive approach to identifying challenges and developing innovative solutions. High precision in analysis and documentation to maintain data integrity. Precision in creating flood inundation maps and modelling flooding impacts under various AEPs. Travel Requirements: Willingness to travel and stay as required across India and abroad. What We Offer: A chance to work on pioneering hydrological studies for renewable energy infrastructure. Access to state-of-the-art tools and technologies for hydrological and flood modelling. Opportunities for professional growth within a rapidly expanding field. Collaborative work environment with like-minded professionals passionate about sustainability. If you are passionate about contributing to renewable energy projects and have the necessary experience, please submit your CV via email with the subject line "Job Opening – Hydrology Specialist" to career@arbutus.co.in . We look forward to hearing from you!
