Job Description

Role & responsibilities Core Technical Skills IBM MQ Administration: Team members should have hands-on experience with IBM MQ concepts, including queue managers, queues, channels, and message flows. They need to understand the architecture and operational procedures of both MQ 8 and MQ 9 environments5. Upgrade and Migration Procedures: Familiarity with the step-by-step process for upgrading MQ appliances and distributed installations, including suspending appliances, firmware upgrades, queue manager migrations, and verifying HA/DR configurations12. High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR): Skills in managing and troubleshooting HA groups, failover processes, and DR strategies within IBM MQ. This includes using commands like and understanding the implications of version mismatches during staged upgrades Backup and Recovery: Proficiency in performing and validating full backups of queue manager data and logs, as well as restoring systems in case of failure during or after the upgrade Operating System Administration: Competence in the underlying operating systems (e.g., Linux, Windows) to manage installations, file systems, and system services required by MQ Scripting and Automation: Ability to use CLI tools, scripts, and automation for repetitive upgrade tasks and post-upgrade validation1. Performance Tuning and Monitoring: Knowledge of best practices for monitoring MQ performance, tuning system parameters, and using monitoring tools (e.g., Dynatrace, Splunk) to ensure system health before and after the upgrade59. Security Management: Experience with configuring and updating SSL/TLS certificates, securing channels, and implementing access controls in MQ environments Troubleshooting and Issue Resolution: Strong analytical skills to diagnose and resolve issues related to message delivery, queue manager status, and system integration during the upgrade process Documentation and Communication: Ability to document upgrade steps, configuration changes, and rollback plans clearly, and communicate effectively with stakeholders and other IT teams Preferred candidate profile Junior Administrators: Should understand basic MQ concepts, queue manager operations, and have some exposure to upgrade or installation processes Intermediate Administrators: Should be comfortable with clustering, message affinity, handling large messages, and have practical experience with upgrade scenarios and troubleshooting Senior Administrators: Should be adept at HA/DR design, advanced performance tuning, integration with monitoring tools, security configuration, and leading complex upgrade projects Chennai location only
