Role Overview We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced Lead Instrumentation & Control Engineer to support our water and wastewater treatment projects, primarily in the USA market . Based in Chennai , you will take technical ownership of instrumentation and automation aspects throughout the project lifecyclefrom design to commissioning. You will work closely with the Project Engineering Manager and lead the I&C scope by ensuring high-quality engineering deliverables, compliance with standards, and efficient cross-discipline coordination. Key Responsibilities Lead instrumentation and control (I&C) engineering activities across global water and wastewater treatment projects. Translate project requirements and process designs into high-quality I&C deliverables. Review and develop P&IDs in collaboration with the process engineering team. Supervise and review basic and detailed I&C engineering work. Ensure adherence to customer specifications, project schedules, and budgets. Design in compliance with local and international codes, standards, and best practices. Coordinate with process, electrical, mechanical, piping, and civil teams to ensure integrated designs. Review vendor quotations and support vendor selection for I&C systems and equipment. Oversee preparation and review of: Instrument index and data sheets I/O lists, cable schedules, and junction box drawings Instrument hook-up drawings and material take-offs Cause & effect matrix, loop diagrams, control panel layouts System architecture, signal wiring, and routing plans Participate in Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and support commissioning as needed. Lead and participate in internal and external design reviews. Collaborate with QA/QC and construction teams to ensure project quality and safety. Provide technical input to clients and support design justifications when necessary. Ensure compliance with HSE policies throughout the engineering and project execution phases. Qualifications & Experience Bachelors Degree in Instrumentation Engineering or a related field. Minimum 10 years of experience in instrumentation and automation engineering. At least 3 years in a lead engineer role on large-scale industrial or infrastructure projects. Hands-on experience in detailed design for: Skid-based, modular, or stick-built treatment systems Instrument selection, sizing, loop design, and control logic development Preferred experience in water and wastewater treatment projects . Familiarity with industry standards (ISA, IEC, NEC, etc.) and instrumentation best practices. Proficient in MS Office and able to review 3D models at a high level. Strong communication and leadership skills, with the ability to work in a multicultural, global team. Willingness to travel internationally for project support, as required.
