Job Description

Role: Manager- Lab Safety Job Description Monitor adherence to all applicable laboratory safety regulations and guidelines. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of safety standards and implement necessary changes in laboratory procedures. Conduct regular safety inspections of laboratory facilities and equipment to identify potential hazards. Ensure proper labelling and storage of chemicals and hazardous materials. Develop and deliver comprehensive laboratory safety training programs for all lab personnel, including new hires and refresher courses. Educate staff on proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and emergency procedures. Provide training on specific hazards associated with chemicals and experiments used in the laboratory. Investigate all laboratory accidents and near misses to identify root causes and implement corrective actions. Document and report safety incidents to relevant authorities. Analyse trends in incidents to identify areas for improvement in safety practices. Collaborate with lab management to develop, update, and enforce laboratory safety policies and procedures. Review and revise safety protocols as needed based on new regulations or emerging hazards. Conduct regular risk assessments to identify potential hazards in the laboratory and implement mitigation strategies. Assess the safety implications of new research projects and procedures Conduct routine inspections of laboratory equipment, ventilation systems, and emergency response equipment (e.g., eyewash stations, fire extinguishers, spill kits). Work with maintenance teams to ensure proper calibration, maintenance, and repair of laboratory safety equipment. Serve as the primary point of contact for lab-related safety incidents and emergencies. Develop and implement emergency response plans, including fire safety, chemical spill response, and first aid. Maintain records of incidents, investigations, and follow-up actions. Education and Certifications A bachelor's degree in a relevant field, such as occupational health and safety, environmental science, or industrial hygiene Few of the certifications in the related field like OHST, CHST, CSP, STS, CIH, CHMM, HSE and CSHM can be a plus. Experience and Skills 8-10 years of experience in handling safety protocols that deal with chemicals, biological specimens, hazardous materials, electronics Knowledge of laboratory safety practices, including chemical management, waste handling, and safe working conditions Knowledge of personal protective equipment and standard operating procedures Knowledge of signage and proper laboratory practices Location Mohali
