Job Description – Engineer (Manufacturing Engineering)**Job Title:** Engineer – Manufacturing Engineering**Department:** Manufacturing / Operations**Location:** Hyderabad**Reports To:** Manager – Manufacturing Engineering / Plant Head**Employment Type:** Full-time Job PurposeTo drive the development, optimization, and maintenance of efficient, scalable, and quality-centric manufacturing processes for smart meters. The engineer will play a key role in ensuring smooth transitions from product development to volume production, focusing on productivity, process capability, lean implementation, quality assurance, and continual improvement.Key Roles & Responsibilities· 1. Process Development & Optimization· Design and develop manufacturing processes, process flows, and work instructions for new and existing smart meter products.· Drive Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) inputs in early product development stages.· Develop process documentation: SOPs, PFMEA, Control Plans, Process Maps, and Line Balancing charts.· 2. New Product Introduction (NPI)· Collaborate with R&D and Product Development teams to ensure manufacturability of new designs.· Lead manufacturing readiness for pilot production and scale-up activities.· Setup jigs, fixtures, assembly lines, and process stations for new product lines.· 3. Manufacturing Process Support· Provide ongoing support to production lines for issue resolution, yield improvement, and cycle time optimization.· Lead root cause analysis (RCA) and corrective/preventive action (CAPA) initiatives for process-related failures.· Implement statistical process control (SPC), mistake proofing (Poka-Yoke), and visual management systems.· 4. Equipment & Tooling Management· Identify requirements, specify, and commission production equipment, automation tools, and test stations.· Plan and execute preventive maintenance schedules in coordination with Maintenance/Plant teams.· Work with vendors for the development and validation of custom jigs, fixtures, and semi-automation solutions.· 5. Quality & Compliance· Ensure process compliance with ISO/IEC standards (e.g., ISO 9001, ISO 27001, BIS, DLMS, etc.) relevant to smart meters.· Participate in internal/external audits and drive process improvements from audit outcomes.· Drive process capability (Cpk) improvements and reduce process variation.· 6. Cost & Efficiency Improvements· Identify and implement cost reduction projects through process improvements, lean manufacturing, and waste elimination.· Support value engineering/VA-VE initiatives in collaboration with R&D and SCM.· 7. Cross-functional Collaboration· Work with Design, SCM, Quality, Maintenance, and Production teams for smooth operations.· Actively participate in cross-functional teams for productivity improvement, layout planning, and continuous improvement projects.Authorities· Recommend capital investments (CAPEX) for new tools, fixtures, or equipment.· Approve production SOPs and process control documentation within the defined scope.· Authorize changes in process parameters, assembly methods, or test procedures post-validation.· Drive cross-functional teams for RCA and CAPA as designated by Manufacturing Leadership.Key Requirements**Education:** B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, Mechatronics, or Industrial Engineering.**Experience:** 2–5 years of experience in manufacturing engineering, preferably in electronics or smart metering industry.**Skills:**· Proficiency in process engineering tools – PFMEA, Control Plans, SOPs, Lean, Six Sigma (Green Belt desirable).· Understanding of electronics manufacturing processes – SMT, Wave Soldering, Functional Testing, Assembly, Calibration.· Familiarity with ERP, MES, PLM tools.· Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.· Exposure to NPI and product industrialization cycles.KPIs / Success Metrics· Process yield and First Pass Yield (FPY)· Cycle time and Takt time improvements· Number of process improvements and cost-saving initiatives implemented· NPI timelines adherence· Process non-conformances and CAPA closures
