Role & responsibilities A phlebotomist draws blood from patients, prepares samples for laboratory testing, and ensures patient comfort and safety. They also label, store, and deliver blood samples to the lab. Phlebotomists explain procedures to patients and maintain a clean and sanitary work area. Key Responsibilities: Blood Collection: Draw blood from patients via venipuncture or capillary puncture. Sample Preparation: Properly label, store, and transport blood samples to the lab. Patient Care: Explain procedures to patients, address concerns, and ensure patient comfort. Record Keeping: Accurately record patient information and test results. Safety and Hygiene: Maintain a clean and sterile work environment, adhering to all safety protocols. Equipment Maintenance: Ensure proper functioning and maintenance of phlebotomy equipment. Collaboration: Work effectively with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals. Additional Duties: May assist with other laboratory tasks, such as collecting urine samples or performing routine lab tests.
