Job Summary: The QA Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for ensuring that all underground (UG) piping construction and above ground (AG) piping construction activities in the oil & refinery project adhere to project specifications, codes, standards, and quality requirements. The role includes inspection, documentation, and compliance with client and regulatory standards. Key Responsibilities: Quality Assurance & Documentation: Develop and implement QA plans and ITPs (Inspection & Test Plans) for UG piping works. Review project specifications, piping layouts, isometric drawings, and material specifications. Ensure compliance with international standards (ASME, API, ASTM, IS, etc.) and client requirements. Maintain records for all quality inspections, material test certificates, and other QA documentation. Inspection & Testing: Conduct visual inspection of piping materials, welding, coating, wrapping, and installation. Verify proper execution of excavation, bedding, piping installation, and backfilling as per project standards. Supervise hydrostatic pressure tests, leak tests, and other functional tests for UG piping. Inspect NDT (Non-Destructive Testing) results and welding quality reports. Coordination & Communication: Liaise with construction teams, client representatives, third-party inspectors, and subcontractors for quality control issues. Raise and follow up on NCRs (Non-Conformance Reports) and ensure corrective actions are implemented. Attend quality review meetings and provide inputs on QA performance and site issues. Compliance & Audit: Ensure adherence to HSE and quality policies throughout the UG piping construction phase. Conduct internal audits and participate in external audits conducted by clients or certification bodies. Identify potential quality risks and develop mitigation plans. Training & Awareness: Educate site personnel and subcontractors on quality requirements and standards for UG piping works. Conduct toolbox talks focused on QA processes and requirements. Skills & Competencies: Thorough knowledge of piping materials, welding processes, and coating methods. Familiarity with UG piping construction methods (excavation, trenching, installation, backfilling). Strong understanding of international codes and standards (ASME B31.3, API 1104, ASTM, etc.). Hands-on experience in hydrotesting, NDT interpretation, and inspection processes. Strong reporting, documentation, and communication skills. Proficiency in QA tools, checklists, and quality management software.
