Job Title: R&D Distinguished Architect Reports To: Value Realization R&D Lead Location: Bangalore, India (Hybrid) Job Summary AVEVA's R&D organization seeks experienced and visionary architects to join our Value Realization group. As a Value Realization (VR) Distinguished Architect, you will be a critical bridge between business strategy and technology execution. You will belong to a leadership tuple (including VR Portfolio Lead and VR Program Manager) who will collaborate with various teams, and stakeholders to define, design, and implement solutions that solve customer’s jobs to be done. You will drive the architectural vision and design for complex, cross-domain solutions, ensuring alignment with AVEVA's overall technology strategy while delivering tangible business value in small incremental steps, called Initiatives, measuring success and course-correcting as needed. You will ensure that non-functional requirements & outcomes are stated and prioritized alongside their functional equivalents, continually be striving to strike the right balance to unlock customer value at speed while progressing the execution of our long-term technology strategy. You will excel at building consensus and fostering collaboration across teams, working closely with counterparts in all dimensions of the operating model (holistic and domain execution), acting as the glue to shape the evolutionary architecture, mitigate technical risks and challenges, and ensure alignment with the overall Town Plan Architecture. Your technical guidance and mentorship will empower the domain execution teams to innovate and maintain agility at the execution level while fostering a culture of technical excellence and ensuring alignment with strategic objectives. The ideal candidate has a strong background in hands-on software development and architecture, with demonstrable experience designing and implementing scalable, resilient, and performant systems. Deep technical expertise in multiple architectural domains (e.g., cloud-native architecture, data engineering, API design) is essential. Candidates should be comfortable with ambiguity, adept at influencing senior leadership, fostering collaboration, and driving a culture of continuous value. Key Responsibilities Be a collaborative member of the team of three leading the path to Value Realization with the VR Portfolio Manager and VR Program Manager. Work closely with the Strategy and Prioritization Team to flesh out the Value Realization Canvas, ensuring goals, hypotheses, Jobs to be Done, and measures of success are cognizant of important non-functional considerations. Drive solution architecture for value realization, finding creative ways to balance long-term needs with speed to market. Contribute to identifying, prioritizing and shaping the Initiative Canvas to lead the delivery of tangible business value in small incremental steps, while being active in measuring success and course-correcting as needed. Collaborate with Domain Execution Architects to develop evolutionary architectures for domain agnostic platform capabilities within the remit of your value realization, outlining the planned evolution of the architecture over time, considering both short-term needs to unlock custom value, with long-term strategic goals. Bringing a Value Driven Focus, through continuous planning, research and analysis, provide timely information insights on total costs of investments to support portfolio prioritization decisions, applying necessary tactics to remove uncertainty of investment costs. Driving action when time is not being spent on highest-impact endeavors. Driving alignment on quality and reliability standards of delivered software and collaborating with Domain Execution Leaders to ensure appropriate shift-left tactics are adopted and that related measures and signals are continuously reviewed to drive improvements. Proactively identify and address potential architectural challenges and risks associated with your value realization and Initiatives, ensuring the long-term health and scalability of the solutions. Foster a culture of architectural excellence, empowering teams to make informed technology and architecture decisions while contributing to your value realization. Proactively seek opportunities to consolidate and converge overlapping services and applications, streamlining the technology landscape and eliminating unnecessary duplication of capabilities, reflecting this in the measures of success of value realizations. Contribute to the definition of AVEVA's technology strategy, including the Town Plan Architecture and guiding principles, ensuring alignment with product vision and business objectives. Qualifications Education and Experience: 15+ years of experience in hands-on software engineering and architecture leadership roles. Deep understanding of software development principles, architectural patterns, and cloud technologies. Strong leadership skills, with the ability to influence and inspire teams. Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences. Experience working in a large, complex organization. Skills and Competencies: Deep technical expertise in designing and implementing scalable, resilient, and performant systems, with a strong understanding of relevant architectural patterns and technologies. Proficient in creating and utilizing effective architecture and design documentation, including Architectural Decision Records (ADRs), promoting their use within teams to ensure shared understanding, consistent implementation, and transparent decision-making." Experience leading and mentoring architecture teams, fostering a culture of technical excellence and collaboration. Highly autonomous - makes progress without significant process or structure, able to apply critical thinking to make decisions with imperfect data. Resolute – able to challenge the status-quo, questions assumptions and not be overly concerned with sunk cost when determining best path forward. Time conscious - considers trade-offs and mitigates risks appropriately, brings a sense of urgency to drive value for customers Outcome driven - proactively focuses on delivering measurable outcomes, effectively prioritizing tasks and adapting strategies to ensure efficient and impactful use of time and resources. Excellent communicator – able to explain complex concepts, collaborate, and influence, with the ability to effectively engage stakeholders across the organization and at different levels of technical background. Preferred Qualifications: Demonstrable experience defining and implementing technology strategies that align with business goals and drive measurable outcomes (e.g., increased revenue, market share growth). Experience with capability-based planning and architecture Proven ability to drive technology innovation and identify/evaluate emerging technologies that can create competitive advantage. Experience with Agile and DevOps methodologies. Key Metrics for Success Accelerated Time to Market: Reduction in time to market for new /enhanced capabilities due to the clear evolutionary roadmap and proactive and transparent risk mitigation. Alignment with Lean Value Tree: Degree of non-functional and technology activity aligned to driving customer value measures of success. Alignment with Tech Strategy: Percentage of solution architecture designs that demonstrably adhere to the Tech Strategy and guiding principles, as evidenced by, e.g., architectural reviews, ADRs Investment Optimization: Ensuring predicted total cost of investment data is available and continually reviewed to inform prioritization. Solutions Quality, Scalability and Robustness based on agreed upon service level expectations. Long Term Technical Debt Reduction: Effective debt management (both utilization and timely payback) to ensure accelerated customer feedback along with sustainable development practices. Developer Flow & Empowered Decision Making: Reduction in cycle time for key processes related to architecture and solution delivery and an increase in the number of key technology decisions made by empowered teams, Collaboration and Influence: Effective collaboration with stakeholders across the organization, influencing technology decisions and building consensus.
