Job Description

1. Relevant experience: 25 years of experience in process chemistry, chemical engineering, or continuous manufacturing, preferably in API or chemical manufacturing settings. Academic project experience in flow chemistry or simulation tools will also be considered. EDUCA 2. Educational requirements: Bachelors, Master’s, or Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, Process Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Technology, or related technical fields. SKILLS/ 3. Competencies: Understanding of pharmaceutical manufacturing processes and synthetic organic chemistry. Hands-on experience with flow chemistry and handling of Chemtrix flow systems is preferred. Proficiency with Aspen Plus, SuperPro Designer, or SchedulePro for process simulation and digital twin development. Strong statistical skills including DoE, multivariate analysis, and process modeling (SIMCA, MODDE, Minitab). Knowledge of GMP, QbD, process validation, and EHS requirements in manufacturing settings. Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving ability, and scientific communication skills. Experience working cross-functionally with Manufacturing, Quality, Engineering, and SCM teams. Self-driven, proactive, and capable of working in a fast-paced, evolving environment. Excellent verbal and written communication in English is mandatory. 4. General responsibilities: Drive and promote the corporate values of Takeda-ism within the workplace. Foster a culture of innovation, scientific curiosity, and continuous improvement. Participate fully in any cross-functional training initiatives. Ensure timely completion of all SOP reading, training, and assessments. Actively contributes to a safe working environment by adhering to process safety and EHS guidelines. Perform other duties as required and directed by the Manufacturing Science Head or designee. 5. Responsibilities: Lead feasibility assessments and flow chemistry development for API and KSM reactions with potential for batch-to-flow transition. Design and optimize upstream and downstream continuous operations, including reaction, crystallization, isolation, and solvent recovery. Perform process modeling, reactor sizing, and throughput calculations using engineering principles and tools like Aspen and SuperPro Designer. Conduct kinetic and thermodynamic modeling for continuous processes, incorporating residence time distribution analysis. Apply statistical design of experiments (DoE) using tools such as SIMCA, MODDE, or Minitab for process optimization and control. Create and validate digital twins of selected processes to support process understanding, tech transfer, and predictive maintenance. Support pilot-scale flow trials in collaboration with internal teams and academic partners (e.g., IIT Bombay). Prepare user requirement specifications (URS) for flow reactors and associated control systems in alignment with GMP and EHS requirements. Collaborate with QA, Engineering, EHS, and Production to ensure manufacturing readiness and compliance for continuous processes. Build internal capability through technical training, SOP development, and knowledge transfer initiatives across the site. Support lifecycle management of flow processes through data monitoring, risk assessments, and continuous improvement frameworks. Championing the site's transformation toward a lighthouse model by showcasing success stories, contributing to global forums, and benchmarking best practices.
