Senior Production Engineer

Job Description

We are looking for a highly skilled and safety-focused Senior Engineer - Production (Factory) to join our team in Chennai. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing pre-production operations ( Metal lines, Extrusion, Thermoforming process & Foaming Process)ensuring timely part delivery, enforcing safety and quality compliance, optimizing processes, and driving continuous improvement initiatives. A strong background in production planning, lean systems (JIT, JIS, Kanban), quality control, safety management, and team leadership is essential. Role & responsibilities Key Responsibilities: Production, Process & Safety Management: Oversee the realization of semi-finished products (metal parts) according to the assembly production plan and specifications, while ensuring strict compliance with safety standards. Optimize and improve production processes to meet safety, quality, productivity, and cost targets. Ensure timely delivery of customer-needed parts in line with production demands and lean principles (JIS, JIT, Kanban). Report key production KPIs, including output, standstills, OEE, scrap rates, and safety incidents. Plan and control manpower in the Pre-Production (PDP) area, including absentee management and resource allocation with a focus on safe working practices. Coordinate corrective and preventive actions for quality and safety issues identified in the Pre-Production area. Supervise process control, quality checking, safety inspections, and documentation in compliance with BSH standards. Support production planning, maintenance schedules, and cross-functional projects, ensuring all activities meet environmental and occupational safety standards. Lead the implementation and adherence to EMS (Environmental Management System) and Workplace Safety Regulations across the PDP area. Quality, Inspection & Safety Compliance: Plan inspections, define sampling strategies, and verify parts based on BSH standards and safety requirements. Ensure smooth flow and timely delivery of inspected parts to the production line to meet customer and production requirements, without creating bottlenecks. Act as the key contact for production line, product audit, and material-related quality and safety issues. Maintain and update incoming quality inspection plans, records, and reports , ensuring safety and compliance data is documented. Familiarity with inspection tools (calipers, micrometers, height gauges, etc.) and safe handling of measurement equipment. Accountable for timely closure of quality and safety issues identified during line operations and product audits. Contribute to continuous improvement and digitalization projects in the quality and safety domains. Team Leadership, Coordination & Safety Training: Train and develop Pre-Production team members on production processes, lean systems (JIS, JIT, Kanban), quality standards, and safety protocols. Participate in recruitment processes for Pre-Production team roles, selecting safety-conscious and lean-thinking candidates. Coordinate production system activities like 5S, problem-solving, safety audits, and process standardization. Foster a safety-first culture through daily interactions, safety talks, and participation in safety committees. Collaborate in projects, workshops, and cross-departmental initiatives with safety at the core of execution. Manage time attendance and abnormality reports for PDP direct employees, including documentation of safety incidents or deviations. Required Skills & Competencies: Proficient in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and data analysis tools. Understanding of core quality and safety tools: 8D, SPC, MSA, FMEA, Kaizen. Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and safety leadership skills. Experience in SAP for production, quality, and safety compliance modules. Preferred Background: Experience in refrigerator or home appliance manufacturing. Exposure to production planning, quality audits, and safety management in a factory environment.
