Position: Design Engineering - (Steel Metal) Location: Rajpura Department: Steel Metal Reports To: Director of Engineering/Chief Engineer Employment Type: Full-TimeKey Responsibilities:Leadership & Team Management: Lead, mentor, and manage NPD, New design and helping the Production team a team of mechanical design engineers and CAD technicians to deliver innovative and efficient mechanical designs for Steel Metal Production. Oversee the development and implementation of design processes, ensuring that the team adheres to project timelines and quality standards. Foster a culture of continuous improvement, technical excellence, and collaboration within the team. Conduct performance reviews, provide guidance, and support professional development for team members. Strategic Design Oversight: Lead the mechanical design function for all new and existing Steel Metal Production, ensuring alignment with the company's long-term strategic goals. Oversee the development of detailed mechanical design solutions for Steel Metal. Provide technical direction on complex and high-value design projects to ensure best practices, cost optimization, and operational efficiency. Design Innovation & Optimization: Continuously explore and integrate new technologies, design tools, and materials into the design process to enhance equipment performance and durability. Lead efforts in improving existing designs, including conducting root cause analysis and implementing corrective actions to optimize equipment reliability and productivity. Drive innovation in mechanical design practices to meet evolving market demands and customer needs. Project Management & Cross-Functional Collaboration: Oversee the execution of mechanical design projects, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, and to the required technical specifications. Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including production, procurement, and quality control, to ensure smooth integration of designs into manufacturing processes. Coordinate with senior management to set project priorities, allocate resources, and define project scope and deliverables. Ensure that project timelines are met and that resources are effectively allocated across multiple projects. Quality Assurance & Compliance: Ensure all mechanical design work adheres to industry standards, codes, and regulations such as ISO, ASME, ASTM, and local safety standards. Establish and enforce design quality control processes and maintain documentation for traceability and regulatory compliance. Review and approve design calculations, models, and drawings to guarantee the highest standards of quality. Customer & Stakeholder Communication: Act as the primary point of contact for all mechanical design-related issues for both internal and external stakeholders, including clients, contractors, and suppliers. Present design concepts, project status, and recommendations to senior management, stakeholders, and clients in clear and concise reports and presentations. Participate in client meetings to review design progress, discuss changes, and address technical challenges. Budgeting & Resource Management: Develop and manage budgets for mechanical design projects, ensuring cost-effective solutions without compromising quality. Allocate resources appropriately for design activities, ensuring the team has the tools, training, and support required to succeed. Monitor design costs and identify opportunities for cost-saving without affecting project quality or timelines. Risk Management & Troubleshooting: Identify and assess potential risks related to mechanical design and proactively develop mitigation strategies. Lead troubleshooting and root-cause analysis efforts for mechanical design-related issues and propose corrective actions for ongoing and future projects. Required Skills & Qualifications:Education: Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related field. A master's degree in a relevant discipline is a plus. Experience: 8-10 years of experience in mechanical design engineering Head, with at least 8 years in a leadership or managerial role in the Steel Metal Industry with Complex Designs. Extensive experience with AutoCAD (both 2D & 3D), and proficiency in other design and simulation software (e.g., SolidWorks, Inventor, CATIA) is desirable. Technical Expertise: In-depth knowledge of mechanical design principles, materials science, and steel industry-specific equipment. Strong understanding of mechanical systems, including motors, drives, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, and material handling equipment. Experience with design analysis tools such as FEA (Finite Element Analysis) and simulation software is a significant advantage. Familiarity with industry standards (ISO, ASME, ASTM) and safety regulations. Management & Leadership Skills: Strong leadership and team management experience, with the ability to inspire and lead a team of engineers. Proven ability to manage large, complex projects, including resource allocation, budgeting, and risk management. Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to make strategic decisions under pressure. Strong communication skills, with the ability to clearly present complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Soft Skills: High level of interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate with multiple departments and external stakeholders. Ability to drive results while maintaining a focus on quality, safety, and efficiency. Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and the ability to prioritize multiple projects. Preferred Qualifications:Master's degree in mechanical engineering or related field. Professional Engineering (PE) license or equivalent certification. Familiarity with ERP and PLM systems for design documentation and project tracking. Knowledge of the latest industry trends and advancements in steel manufacturing technologies.
