Job Description

The Technology Head in a group of schools and colleges plays a crucial role in managing, innovating, and aligning technological infrastructure with the institution’s academic and operational goals. This leadership role encompasses a wide range of responsibilities, from IT infrastructure management to the adoption of educational technology that enhances learning experiences. 1. Strategic Technology Planning and Vision Develop and execute a long-term technology strategy that aligns with the institution’s mission, vision, and goals. Identify opportunities for leveraging technology to enhance teaching, learning, and administrative efficiency across all campuses. Collaborate with leadership to prioritize technology initiatives that meet institutional needs, balancing innovation with practical requirements. 2. IT Infrastructure and Network Management Oversee the planning, implementation, and maintenance of IT infrastructure, including servers, networks, and data storage. Ensure reliable and secure internet access, intranet, and network connections across multiple campuses. Implement redundancy and disaster recovery measures to protect against data loss or downtime. 3. Educational Technology Integration Work with academic leaders to evaluate, select, and implement educational technologies that support curriculum delivery, blended learning, and online programs. Support faculty and staff in adopting digital tools, such as learning management systems (LMS), classroom management software, and multimedia resources. Assess the effectiveness of educational technologies and make recommendations for new tools or upgrades to improve teaching and learning experiences. 4. Cybersecurity and Data Privacy Develop and enforce cybersecurity policies to protect the institution’s data, including student records, financial information, and personnel files. Implement data protection measures and compliance standards, such as GDPR or FERPA, ensuring legal and regulatory adherence. Conduct regular security audits, vulnerability assessments, and staff training to minimize cybersecurity risks. 5. Digital Transformation and Innovation Lead digital transformation projects that streamline operations, enhance communication, and improve workflow efficiency. Identify and pilot innovative technologies, such as artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, and cloud computing, that may add value to the institution. Foster a culture of technological curiosity and openness to change, encouraging staff and faculty to embrace new digital tools. 6. IT Support and Maintenance Manage a team of IT support staff responsible for troubleshooting hardware, software, and network issues across campuses. Ensure quick response times for technical issues, maintaining minimal disruption to the academic and administrative functions. Establish a ticketing and tracking system for IT support requests to monitor resolution rates and improve service quality. 7. Budgeting and Vendor Management Develop and manage the technology budget, ensuring efficient use of resources and alignment with institutional priorities. Negotiate contracts and manage relationships with technology vendors, including software providers, hardware suppliers, and consultants. Evaluate cost-effective solutions that provide robust technology without compromising on quality or security. 8. Data Analytics and Reporting Leverage data analytics to support institutional decision-making, tracking metrics related to student performance, engagement, and administrative efficiency. Create dashboards and reports that provide insights to leadership, enabling data-driven decisions in areas such as enrollment, retention, and academic performance. Oversee the use of data analytics tools and ensure that staff and faculty are trained in using these tools effectively. 9. Training and Development Develop and implement training programs to ensure staff and faculty are proficient in using educational and administrative technologies. Provide ongoing professional development in areas such as digital literacy, cybersecurity awareness, and emerging technologies. Encourage a continuous learning environment, supporting staff in acquiring certifications and advanced training in technology-related areas. 10. Collaboration with Academic and Administrative Departments Work closely with academic leaders to integrate technology into the curriculum, facilitating interactive and personalized learning experiences. Collaborate with admissions, marketing, finance, and other departments to implement technologies that improve operational efficiency and service quality. Act as a technology advisor across departments, offering guidance on the best tools and practices to achieve departmental objectives. 11. System and Software Implementation Lead the implementation of enterprise software systems, such as student information systems (SIS), LMS, and finance or HR management platforms. Ensure new systems are effectively integrated with existing infrastructure, minimizing disruptions and data migration challenges. Manage software updates and upgrades, testing and troubleshooting any issues that arise. 12. Crisis Management and Technical Incident Response Develop and implement an IT crisis management plan to address potential outages, cyber-attacks, or other emergencies. Establish a response protocol for technical incidents, ensuring minimal downtime and clear communication with relevant stakeholders. Conduct post-incident analysis to identify lessons learned and improve incident response procedures. 13. Compliance and Ethical Standards Ensure compliance with all relevant technology-related laws, regulations, and standards (such as FERPA for student privacy or ADA for accessibility). Develop and enforce policies related to technology use, data privacy, and ethical considerations, fostering a responsible technology culture. Regularly review policies to ensure they remain aligned with industry standards and evolving legal requirements. 14. Innovation and Continuous Improvement Stay updated on trends in educational technology and IT management, proactively introducing solutions that improve the institution’s technological landscape. Foster a mindset of continuous improvement, encouraging feedback from students, staff, and faculty to enhance technology services. Periodically review and evaluate the effectiveness of current technologies, retiring outdated systems and recommending necessary upgrades. 15. Stakeholder Communication and Reporting Communicate with leadership, faculty, staff, students, and parents on technology initiatives, improvements, and support options. Provide regular updates and insights on technology advancements, achievements, and challenges to keep stakeholders informed. Prepare reports for the institution’s board and senior leadership to highlight key technology initiatives, performance metrics, and strategic recommendations.
