This position will play a crucial role in developing and scaling our engineering practices, teams, and culture to support Deque’s mission of digital equality. You will be responsible for building and maintaining a high-performance engineering organization while establishing processes that achieve the right balance between standardization and agility. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of leading engineering teams, developing talent, and implementing engineering practices that drive innovation and excellence. Apply Now Primary Responsibilities Develop and scale a world-class engineering organization that attracts, retains, and develops top talentEstablish and maintain lightweight, consistent engineering processes that ensure rapid, quality delivery while meeting accessibility, security, and other non-functional requirementsPartner with the Chief Architect to drive appropriate standardization, code reuse, and architectural coherence while maintaining team autonomyCreate transparent career advancement frameworks and performance management systems that align individual growth with company objectivesLead the implementation of innovative engineering practices, tools, and methodologies, including the strategic adoption of AI tools to enhance productivityEnsure engineering teams receive appropriate training in security, accessibility, and emerging technologiesManage tax credit opportunities and engineering compensation strategyCreate effective onboarding processes to integrate new engineering talent quickly and successfullyFoster a culture of engineering excellence, innovation, and continuous improvementPartner with the Chief Product Officer to ensure alignment between product strategy, technical strategy, and engineering execution Requirements 8+ years of engineering leadership experience with at least 4 years in senior leadership rolesBackground in SaaS product developmentExperience scaling engineering organizations and implementing effective engineering practicesStrong track record of attracting, developing, and retaining engineering talentA strong drive to organize, incentivize, and manage teams to achieve strategic product priorities that drive competitive advantages for the companyA strong track record and drive to be successful with and through the engineering teamsExperience implementing performance management systems that drive accountability and engagementProven ability to balance standardization with team autonomyExperience leading distributed engineering teamsStrong understanding of modern software development methodologies and best practicesPassion for and experience with implementing and adopting emerging technologies and tools, including AI-assisted developmentA desire to lead and work with a world class organization
